CAST-R Clinical Antimicrobial Susceptibility Test Ramanometry
CAST-R™ is an integrated instrument system that helps clinicians rapidly decide which (and at what level) antibiotic drug to prescribe. It includes two models, CAST-R™ Mini and CAST-R™ Pro.
Based on stable isotope-labeled Single-Cell Raman Spectroscopy, CAST-R™ allows direct identification of pathogen without cultivation, measurement of antibiotic resistance and its intercellular heterogeneity based on metabolic activity inhibition at single-cell resolution. As it is culture-free, CAST-R™ can provide results in as little as 3 hrs, i.e., a ten-fold acceleration from current methods.
Moreover, individual cells with specific drug resistance can be sorted using CAST-R™ Pro, supporting whole-genome sequencing to reveal genetic mutations that underlie the drug resistance. The genome of each drug-resistant cell can be amplified and sequenced with minimal bias and high-coverage.
